In September 1803 the first settlers departed Connecticut by horse and one lone settler who traveled by ox-cart. The one who travelled by ox-cart was officially the first settler of Worthington. It was voted to name the village for Thomas Worthington, one of Ohio's first two senators. A piece of unique history includes on April 29, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln's funeral train passed through Worthington on its way to the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.
